Getting Started with Crypto Airdrops
Essential Tools and Resources
Crypto airdrops provide an exciting opportunity for us to earn free tokens simply by undertaking a specific set of tasks on repeat. Before you can do that though, you’re going to need some things! In this guide, we'll walk you through the key components required to get started and provide specific links to trusted platforms and services.
This article contains some affiliate links which may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you.
Tools
1. Web Browser: We recommend using the Brave browser for its built-in safety features and the ability to passively earn BAT tokens. It is a Chrome-based browser, allowing you to easily access extensions from the Chrome store.
2. VPN: While not essential, using a VPN is recommended for added safety. Many protocols block users based in the United States due to crypto regulations. Consider using NordVPN or another reliable VPN service to protect your online activities.
3. Crypto Wallet: Our preferred wallet for airdrop participation is MetaMask. It offers ease of use with most protocols. Alternatively, you could use Coinbase Wallet or Trust Wallet as well.
4. Wallet Account for Each Airdrop: Within your Metamask profile, you can create separate wallets named after the airdrops you're farming, e.g. zkSync, LayerZero, Shardeum, etc. This organisation will help you track your airdrop allocations effectively. Please note that this doesn’t mean you should farm the same airdrop through many wallets to game the system! This is called Sybil and will get you disqualified from an airdrop wasting all your efforts. We’ll discuss this in a future article!
5. Pocket Universe Extension: Install the Pocket Universe extension to add a safety barrier between a link on your wallet. It will run a test transaction in the background and give you a warning about a potential scams (or it will give you the okay), ensuring your airdrop journey remains safe and secure.
Cryptocurrency
1. Crypto: To participate in airdrops, you'll need cryptocurrency. You can purchase crypto, such as ETH (the native token of the Ethereum blockchain), on centralised exchanges like Binance, Coinbase, ByBit or OKX. Once purchased, you can transfer the purchased crypto to your specific MetaMask wallet account.
2. Testnet Crypto (Goerli): Goerli is one of Ethereum's popular testnets used by developers to test applications. Airdrop hunters like us can acquire Goerli ETH to interact with dApps (dencentralused applications) to help us complete the qualifying activities for securing airdrop allocations. You can request Goerli ETH from faucets like Goerli Faucet, Paradigm Faucet, and QuickNode Faucet. You’ll need your wallet address and in some cases a Twitter account or to sign up for their account before you can request it. Additionally, we'll provide a guide on how to bridge a small amount of ETH from the mainnet to the Goerli testnet using Testnet Bridge, ensuring you have an ample supply of Goerli ETH for months of airdrop participation.
Social Media
1. Twitter: Create a profile on Twitter to stay updated on airdrop announcements and connect with the crypto community.
2. Discord: Join Discord to engage in airdrop discussions, receive project updates, and potentially participate in exclusive airdrops.
3. Telegram: While not necessary for all airdrops, having a Telegram profile can be useful. Some airdrops require joining their Telegram channel for participation.
4. Zealy: Sign up for Zealy, where you can connect your airdrop hunting wallet, Twitter profile, and Discord profile. Participate in activities and quests, earn experience points (XP), and qualify for rewards and roles in Discord.
5. Galxe: Create a Galxe profile to participate in activities and quests, receive NFTs, and qualify for rewards and roles in Discord.
6. GuildXYZ: Join GuildXYZ to engage in activities and quests, unlocking rewards and roles in Discord.
Other Useful Links
While the below are not essential, we have found them to be extremely useful in our airdrop hunting journey, especially on the security front.
Security
Webacy: Sign up for the free Wallet Watch tool, which alerts you via email or SMS when a transaction occurs on your tracked wallet.
Revoke.cash: Revoke access permissions to specific tokens or NFTs in your wallet. Useful in case you accidentally click a scam link and you need to act fast to minimise damage.
Earni.fi: Type in your Metamask wallet address to discover any available unclaimed airdrops. It will also monitor one wallet address for free and send email updates when a new airdrop is available. Note that the service is limited and the most functionality is behind a paywall.
Chainlist: Add the correct testnet and mainnet networks to your Metamask wallet for seamless airdrop participation.
Cryptocurrency Exchanges
Transferring Tokens
Multisend: Easily send ETH from one MetaMask wallet to multiple wallets in a single transaction, saving on gas fees.
Orbiter Finance: A platform that enables crypto bridging between blockchains, including testnets, with a token airdrop reward system based on transaction volume. More on this in a future guide!
